Each year the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and Royal College of Physicians of London conducts a census with the aim of providing robust data on the state of the physician workforce in the UK.

These census data help us plan for the future and is more important than ever, considering the effects of COVID-19 on the NHS.

The data we collect via the census is integral to our influencing work, enabling us to explain to government why the workforce and health service are under such pressure. This year, we have released the data to the national press alongside a new 3-RCP policy position paper setting out a range of short- and medium-term solutions across recruitment, retention and retirement that government must quickly implement to make a difference now.

If you want to know more about how we use the data, please look at results from the 2021 census here, it includes a summary report of findings, a video preview of results and two data toolkits you can interrogate census data by your specialtyregion and trust.

How to complete the 2022 census

Please look out for your email from the three Royal Colleges of Physicians around Friday 28 / Monday 31 October which will allow you to access your personalised form. The URL we send is specific to you and should not be passed on to your colleagues.

This year all respondents will be entered into a draw where they will have the chance to win a set of airpods, an iPad or a free conference/event place from a selection of excellent learning opportunities.

If you haven’t received your email, or are having difficulties accessing your form, please contact mwucensus@rcp.ac.uk.
