The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow welcomed Jayne Robbie as the new Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Faculty’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday (15 May 2025). She will be joined by Euan McGivern who was elected as Vice Dean.
Jayne Robbie is a senior lecturer at Birmingham City University and a specialist podiatrist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. She is passionate about addressing healthcare inequalities and has been involved with diabetes foot care for more than 25 years.
Speaking after her election, Jayne said: “I am thrilled and delighted. It’s a great privilege to be elected by your peers into such an aspirational College position.
“My first priority will be to energize the Faculty Executive Board and build momentum to make an impact on the profession and create real change. We will partner with colleagues to create relevant education for the modern podiatric medicine workforce. It’s about facilitating a committee that people want to get involved with.”
Jayne was the first podiatrist in the West Midlands to be accepted on to the Diabetes UK Clinical Champions programme in 2019 and now sits on their Healthcare Professions Advisory committee.
In addition to her podiatric medicine qualifications, she holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Wales, a master’s in Health Care from the University of Derby and Fellowship of the Royal College of Podiatrists.
She has played a pivotal role in the IDEAL Diabetes ACT NOW! campaign to encourage early referral of foot problems to specialist centres to reduce amputations, for which she was awarded the Janet Kinson Named Lecture at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference in February 2025.
She is a committee member for the English Diabetes Footcare Network, co-chair of Foot at Diabetes UK and a NICE guidelines panel member.
Jayne will be joined by Euan McGivern, who was elected as Vice Dean. He has served on the College’s Faculty of Podiatric Medicine Executive Board since 2020. Euan has worked in the NHS for 13 years in specialist and advanced practice roles, working alongside orthopaedic colleagues.
More recently, he has moved into operational and strategic leadership positions and is currently the Head of Podiatry for NHS Lothian. He is passionate about improving services and allowing Podiatry professionals working at the top of their skillsets to make a tangible difference in patients’ care.
