The Global Anaesthesia, Surgery and Obstetric Collaboration network
02 Dec 2016
Attend the next Global Anaesthesia, Surgery and Obstetric Collaboration network meeting in College.
Last year was a landmark in the field of global surgery; with the Lancet Commission in Global Surgery powerfully advocating for the necessity and affordability of upscaling global surgical care provision. Around 4 billion people still lack access to safe, affordable, and timely surgical care.
The Lancet Commission sparked the formation of a new UK group of trainee surgeons, anaesthetists and obstetricians who share a passion for improving health at a global level, the Global Anaesthesia, Surgery and Obstetric Collaboration (GASOC). GASOC ran its first UK-wide conference this year and has established regular web-based academic discussions around global health research and projects.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is partnering with GASOC to support academic discussions on global health issues through a virtual ‘journal club’, with video-conferences taking place simultaneously in London, Oxford and Glasgow.
The next virtual ‘journal club’ meeting is being held on Monday 23 January, 18.30-20.00. Trainees are invited to join the meeting in Glasgow from 18.15 for refreshments. There is the capability to join the meetings via Skype, however we would encourage attending your local group where possible, to enhance local coordination and networking on global health issues.
Senior staff and undergraduates are also welcome to the meeting.
Please contact stuart.fergusson@rcpsg.ac.uk if you would like to attend this upcoming video-conference meeting remotely or in person, and if you are interested in future similar events.
