A new partnership between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the North American Board of Podiatric Medicine is set to further develop postgraduate knowledge, skills and expertise in the profession.

The news comes as the two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will invite podiatric medicine professionals from the United States and Canada, who are members of the Board, to join the Royal College’s Faculty of Podiatric Medicine.

The agreement further strengthens the College’s longstanding relationship with North America.

The MoU was signed at the Royal College in Glasgow earlier this month and celebrated at a Diploma ceremony. David Wylie, Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine, said: “As a Faculty, we are increasingly looking to unite the profession globally to raise standards in education and patient care. Today’s news marks an important milestone in these efforts and reflects the commitment of the two organisations to continuously improve podiatric medicine for the benefit of patient care and safety.”

Adam Johnson, President of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, said: “The Board of Directors of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine is proud of its productive partnership with the Royal College over the years. This partnership has and will continue to allow us to advance the field of medicine. We are excited to collaborate with our colleagues in Scotland and around the world to mutually benefit our organizations and members while continuing to deliver outstanding value to our Diplomates.”

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is the UK’s only multidisciplinary Royal College, with more than 16,000 physicians, surgeons, dental surgeons, travel medicine specialists and podiatrists world-wide.

The American Board of Podiatric Medicine is an organisation offering a comprehensive board certification process in podiatric medicine. It is the only Board recognised by the Specialty Board Recognition Committee, under the authority of the American Podiatric Medical Association to certify podiatric orthopaedics and primary podiatric medicine.
