The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow have conferred two new Honorary Fellowships at our Admission Ceremony in Glasgow last week.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow have conferred two new Honorary Fellowships at our Admission Ceremony in Glasgow last week.
The prestigious awards were made to senior medical professionals who have made valuable contributions to their profession.
Receiving Honorary Fellowships were:
Dr Jonathan Harvey Cossar
After a lifelong interest and research in Travel Medicine, Dr Cossar was instrumental in setting up the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in his role of Vice Dean in 2006. He has made many contributions to the College and in the field of Travel medicine as a whole, including as a representative of the College and trustee of the National Memorial to David Livingstone and as Session Chair of the first three international Congresses on Travel Medicine.
Delivering Dr Cossar’s citation for the award, Dean of the College’s Faculty of Travel Medicine Jane Chiodini said:
“Many of the Faculty of Travel Medicine Diplomates will testify to Dr Jon Cossar’s teaching, support and shining example as a Travel Medicine practitioner. It was therefore, no surprise when Jon played a significant part in setting up the Faculty of Travel Medicine in our College. He served with distinction as Foundation Vice-Dean, promoting the Faculty internationally and leading on Membership Services.
“He is a significant figure in Travel Medicine and has also made major contributions to the life and standing of the College.”
His Excellency Professor Khaled Abdel Ghaffar
His Excellency Professor Khaled Abdel Ghaffar is recognised internationally for his leadership in Dental Education. Having held posts such as Dean of the Dental School of Ain Shams University followed by becoming Vice President at this University, he was appointed the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Egyptian Government.
Delivering Professor Ghaffar’s citation for Honorary Fellowship, the College’s Vice President (Medical) Professor Hany Eteiba said:
“Professor Abdel Ghaffar is a distinguished professor of dental oral surgery and an eminent academic. He has supervised and mentored a large number of postgraduate students and his original clinical research dramatically improved the standard and quality of patient care.
“Awarding him the prestigious fellowship of our College is recognition of his professional eminence as an academic, educational leader, outstanding clinician and key policy maker.”
