The Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations (ICBSE) and the four Surgical Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom and in Ireland can now confirm the MRCS exam schedule for 2022 as below:

MRCS Part A
There will be two MRCS Part A exams in 2022, on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 10 May 2022
  • Tuesday 13 September 2022

From May 2022, the MRCS Part A exam will be in-person with a test centre approach. There will be test centres available to candidates both in the UK and Ireland, and internationally. ICBSE and the four Colleges will provide further information in early 2022 so that candidates are sufficiently prepared.

Any CT/ST1 candidates based in the United Kingdom or Ireland who have not already been able to apply for the May 2022 MRCS Part A exam will now be able to do so. The closing date for applications will be Friday 28 January. Candidates should check the website of the College with whom they would like to apply for details of how to apply.

MRCS Part B
There will be three MRCS Part B exams in the UK and Ireland in 2022, on the following dates:

  • 5 – 20 February 2022
  • 7 – 22 May 2022
  • 1 – 16 October 2022

There will be an additional MRCS Part B exam run in July 2022 for only those CT/ST2 candidates in the UK or Ireland who pass the MRCS Part A in May 2022 to give these candidates the opportunity to complete the MRCS before the end of CT/ST2. Further details and exact dates of this additional MRCS Part B exam will be confirmed in early 2022.

ICBSE and the four Colleges would like to thank candidates for their understanding while we have addressed the challenges of exam delivery posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We appreciate the impact this will have had on candidates and their planned schedules for sitting the MRCS Part A in 2022 and apologise for any distress caused.
