Minimum pricing verdict

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow welcomes the decision from the Court of Session to move forward with the Scottish Government’s Minimum Unit Pricing (MUP) policy for alcohol.

The Government’s MUP policy was passed by Scottish Parliament more than four years ago before the Scotch Whisky Association claimed that the policy was in breach of European Law. 

Professor David Galloway, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow said: “The destructive health and social effects of alcohol overuse are obvious and any measure to mitigate these should be encouraged. I am very pleased that the democratic decision to introduce minimum unit pricing for alcohol can now  be introduced.”
