Throughout 2020 healthcare has been dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we now move into winter, we face the additional challenge of having COVID-19 circulating at the same time as seasonal flu. As a College, we want all our Fellows and Members to be healthy to benefit you, your families and your patients.
Increasing the number of healthcare staff who are immunised against flu is vital if we are to ensure that the NHS can effectively cope with the expected increase in demand this winter. Each health board or hospital trust’s capacity and and plans for vaccination may vary, so please check availability before booking an appointment.
Encouraging as many as possible of the College’s Fellows and Members to have their flu vaccination, College President Professor Jackie Taylor said:
“To continue providing the best service for patients, we need to ensure that we increase the proportion of health service staff that receive this vital protection. Every member of our NHS team needs to be immunised if we’re to be ready for this winter.
“We can’t have healthy patients without healthy staff across the NHS. If we expect our older patients and those with other underlying health risks to have early influenza immunisation, it is reasonable to ask health and care staff to be similarly protected. Play your part and check immunisation availability in your area and book your appointment.”
