Improving end-of-life care: professional development for physicians, a report published by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), aims to help all physicians improve their care of patients towards the end of their lives. This means not only caring for them in their last hours or days, but identifying these patients earlier on, talking to them and their carers and giving them time to make choices about where they die, and what treatment and care they receive.
The report includes practical recommendations and tools to implement them, within a broader framework of supportive measures from trusts and commissioners. It is essential reading for all clinicians who recognise the uncertainties and difficulties in this important area of care.
