Dr John G Meara to speak at triennial conference

Dr Meara will give the Triennial Lecture on global surgery at the College’s Excellence in Healthcare 2017 conference in June.

Dr John G Meara is to give the 2017 Triennial Lecture at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow’s triennial conference, Excellence in Healthcare 2017, on 8-9 June.
Dr Meara is Kletjian Professor of Global Surgery in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change within the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
He is also the Co-Chair for the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, an initiative focused on improving global health by increasing access to safe and affordable surgery in the world’s poorest regions. It has been identified that approximately 30% of the global burden of disease can be attributed to surgically treatable conditions, yet over five billion people in low and middle income countries do not have access to safe and affordable care.
Dr Meara’s will present his talk, titled Global Surgery 2030: Evidence and Solutions for Achieving Health, Welfare and Economic Development, on the first day of the two-day conference in Glasgow.
Excellence in Healthcare 2017 is the fourth international triennial conference of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The 2017 conference incorporates four individual conferences in medicine, surgery, travel medicine, and podiatric medicine running in parallel over two days.
