It was with great sadness that we heard the news that former Royal College of Surgeons of England President, Dame Clare Marx CBE, DL, MBBS, PRCS, had died.

Commenting on the passing of Dame Clare Marx, President Mike McKirdy said:
It was with great sadness that we heard the news that former Royal College of Surgeons of England President, Dame Clare Marx CBE, DL, MBBS, PRCS, had died.
Dame Clare was an extraordinary woman – indeed the first woman to hold the roles of both President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Chair of the General Medical Council (GMC). Her outstanding contribution to our profession will be greatly missed. She was a great friend of our College of which she was a proud Honorary Fellow.
Our thoughts at this time are with the friends and family of Dame Clare.
