College Statement on AoMRC ‘Fixing the NHS’ Report

21 Sep 2022

The Academy report published today is the starkest warning yet of the challenges our NHS faces over this crucial winter period and beyond.

Commenting on the publication of the Academy of Medical Royal College’s ‘Fixing the NHS’ report, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow President, Mike McKirdy said:

“The Academy report published today is the starkest warning yet of the challenges our NHS faces over this crucial winter period and beyond.  This report highlights many of the concerns that have been raised repeatedly from our UK Membership

For too long now, we have normalised unacceptable care in the NHS – that has a long-lasting impact not only on patients but also on NHS staff.

Throughout the pandemic, we kept hearing about how valued our healthcare workforce were. Now is the time to meet those words with action.

We stand ready to support and work with Governments across the UK to fix the NHS we have and to build the NHS we need and can afford.”
