Professor Jackie Taylor, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has thanked Fellows and Members for their incredible professionalism and dedication to patient care over the last year.
Professor Taylor highlighted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic healthcare staff have responded in every way possible to help. The demands of this have however brought unprecedented challenges to staff and Professor Taylor emphasised the physical and emotional toll many are experiencing. She said:
“There’s no doubt that we are all feeling physically and emotionally exhausted. Please do try to have time for some respite over the next couple of weeks. We all need time to rest, to process and to heal. Some of you will be working over the festive season. Thank you for taking on that extra burden and do still please try to have some downtime.
“We also have a few more months of significant pressures ahead of us. But one thing is sure, these days will pass and better times are coming. So, I wish you a peaceful Christmas and a hopeful New Year.”
