Eligibility Criteria for Surgeons

Member

If you hold the intercollegiate MRCS diploma you are automatically eligible to join our College as a surgical member.

Membership of the College is a great way of demonstrating your commitment to your professional development and brings with is a wide range of membership benefits including financial and lifestyle.

Collegiate membership is also open to any individual whose highest qualification is, in the opinion of Council, deemed to be equivalent to the MRCS diploma.

Fellow

Fellowship of the College is open to any surgeon who has been successful in:

  • an Intercollegiate Specialty Examination (JCIE or JCSFE)
    or
  • the FRCS (Ophthalmology) examination offered by this College

Fellowship is also open to surgeons who, in the opinion of College, have made substantial contributions to their specialty, or who are senior members of the surgical profession and whose published works and attainments are of such distinction as to justify election. Specialty doctors who have an appropriate UK qualification, experience and / or are on the GMC's Specialist Register may also be considered for fellowship.

For existing Members seeking elevation to fellowship, a minimum of 4 years consecutive membership of this College is expected before nomination.

Application process

Fellowship is granted automatically to those who have passed an Intercollegiate Specialty examination or the FRCS (Ophthalmology) examination.

For all other applicants, please complete the Proposal for Fellowship Form by clicking on the button below.

Current Members and / or those who hold the intercollegiate MRCS diploma are required to submit their completed application along with a brief CV and the name of one sponsor. All other applicants should submit a CV and the names of two sponsors with their completed application.

Sponsors should be Fellows of this College in good standing, one of whom should provide a brief statement in support of your application.

Application checklist

For an application to be considered complete, please see below checklist of requirements. In order for your application to be fully assessed, these required fields must be completed. If required fields have been omitted, your admission to the College could be delayed until all outstanding fields have been clarified:

  • Name (Including Title)
  • Date Of Birth
  • Email Address
  • Home Address
  • Place of Work, Work Address & Work Contact Details
  • Job Title
  • Specialty
  • Primary qualification; date awarded and name of awarding institution
  • Declaration fields
  • Signature
  • Sponsor(s) as required (If sponsors are not with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, please provide details of which Royal College they are a Fellow in good standing with and include their PID number)

In addition to the above fields within the application form, we must receive the following documents along with your application:

  • Evidence of primary qualification (and any other supporting evidence)
  • An up-to-date CV
