Qualifications in Travel Medicine

The Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is the only one of its kind in Europe.

As you develop in your career, our qualifications allow you to progress from a Professional Development Certificate to a Postgraduate Diploma. You can also continue your education to master's level through our partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University.

Professional Development Certificate in Travel Medicine

  • Duration: Six months

Our introductory travel medicine qualification will provide you with knowledge and understanding of travel medicine in relation to the core aspects of travel health. The course is delivered entirely online using digital modules with self-directed study. You'll have access to a tutor, who will provide guidance throughout the programme.

RCPSG Postgraduate Diploma in Travel Medicine

  • Duration: 18 months
  • Fee: £4,395*
  • Qualification: Postgraduate Diploma; SCQF Level 11
  • Next cohort: 6 May 2025

This course consists of eight postgraduate modules delivered using a blended model of residential elements and online interactive learning. If you complete the diploma you'll be eligible to join the College as a Member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine and can use the postnominals MFTM RCPS(Glasg).

RCPSG Postgraduate Diploma in International Expedition and Wilderness Medicine

  • Duration: 18 months

This course is a must for any healthcare professional seeking to participate in, or lead expeditions in extreme and challenging environments. You’ll learn to make sound clinical and situational judgements in environments and situations prone to rapid change and uncertain outcomes. Structured in conjunction with the Oxford Handbook of Expedition and Wilderness Medicine, the diploma offers students the opportunity to travel to challenging locations in the UK and Morocco.

MSc Advanced Practice (Travel Medicine)

On successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Travel Medicine, you can progress to a final course of study, a master's programme offered by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU). This is a 60-credit dissertation module, completed over two trimesters in a six-month period. The dissertation would build on the work begun during your Postgraduate Diploma, resulting in an MSc, demonstrating your advanced clinical and academic professionalism.
