Biography
Now International Director (Hans Sloane Fellow), Royal College of Physicians, London and Emeritus Professor of Tropical Medicine (Honorary Fellow St Cross College) with continuing Australian-funded research on snake-bite in Papua New Guinea and Myanmar. Formerly Head, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. Senior editor Oxford Textbook of Medicine and OTM-Infection. Career as a physician, teacher, researcher, resident (7 years each in Nigeria and Thailand) and traveller in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Papua New Guinea based at the Hammersmith Hospital and, since 1975, Oxford. Founded the Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Network in 1979. Publications on infectious, tropical, respiratory diseases; venomous animals; envenoming; plant, chemical poisoning; expedition medicine.
