Formerly Head, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. Senior editor Oxford Textbook of Medicine and OTM-Infection. Career as a physician, teacher, researcher, resident (7 years each in Nigeria and Thailand) and traveller in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Papua New Guinea based at the Hammersmith Hospital and, since 1975, Oxford. Founded the Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Network in 1979. Publications on infectious, tropical, respiratory diseases; venomous animals; envenoming; plant, chemical poisoning; expedition medicine.
