Biography

Dr Sam Allen is Dean of the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow and a Consultant in Infectious Diseases in Ayrshire. He loves his work and to travel. Combining these, he has worked at clinics in Ghana, Hong Kong and the Congo. Sam has trained doctors to treat HIV in Botswana and spent time working at the WHO Arbovirus Reference Centre in the Amazon before returning in 2016 to help set up a support group for families affected by Zika. Sam is a member of the UK-Med Emergency Medical Team and worked in an Ebola Treatment Centre in Sierra Leone. Sam has travelled the length of the Amazon from its source in Bolivia to the Atlantic. He would like to do the same on the Nile. Sam’s best travel tip is to memorize a few useful phrases in the local language.
