Jimmy graduated from Glasgow Dental School in 1986. Having undertaken Vocational Training on the Isle of Bute, he opened his own practice in 1988.
He renewed his involvement with Vocational training in 1999, when he assumed the role of Vocational Trainer. After 5 years as a trainer, he was appointed Vocational training Adviser for West 1, and became Assistant Director for the West 3 years later. Within this role, he successfully completed a Masters degree in Education.
He was appointed Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean for NHS Education for Scotland in 2015. In this role he is involved in Training for new graduates across Scotland.
Within the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, he has served as both a member and chair of Dental Education, Training and Professional Development Board, and is currently Director of Dental Education. From November 2019, he will serve as Vice Dean of the Dental Faculty.
