Walter Yu Hang Lam

Dr. Walter Lam is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Prosthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). As a clinician, he is a specialist in Prosthodontics and holds Fellowships from the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong (CDSHK), The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), and The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS). As an educator, he has extensive experience in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate specialist training.

He is the year director of BDS year 3, deputy chief examiner of BDS year 4, as well as the course coordinator of the CAD/CAM dentistry and removable partial dentures. He is also a Fellow in Advanced Higher Education (FHEA) and currently serves as an FHEA mentor at HKU. As a researcher, his research themes include Prosthodontics, Digital Dentistry, and Artificial Intelligence. He has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed indexed journals and holds 5 patents.

His team has received several prestigious research prizes, including The Neal Garrett Clinical Research Prize at the International Association for Dental Research. In the dental community, he has served as a member of the Science Committee for the World Dental Federation (FDI). He is also the Secretary/Treasurer for the Digital Dentistry Research Network of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) and is an Editorial Board Member for the Digital Dentistry Section, Journal of Dentistry and BMC Oral Health (both Q1 in Dentistry).

He is a founding member of the HKU Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science and represents Hong Kong in the ITU/WHO Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (FG-AI4H) and International Standard Organization (ISO) Dental CAD/CAM Systems (TC 06/SC 9). He is a Councilor of the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong (CDSHK), an international dental advisor and examiner of RCPSG, Chair of the regional committee, RACDS, Secretary of the Continue Medical Education Subcommittee of CDSHK, and Secretary of the Hong Kong Prosthetic Dentistry Society.
