Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery demonstrates to peers and patients alike that you are committed to your continued professional development.
The standard route to membership is through successful completion of the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery examination - MFDS RCPS(Glasg). The award of this Diploma indicates that a candidate has enhanced his or her knowledge, understanding, experience and clinical competence beyond primary qualification level to the standard required to proceed into Specialist Training.
Membership of the Faculty is also open to those who hold a Membership qualification from another UK/Irish Royal College e.g. MJDF, MFDS RCS (Edinburgh), MFD RCS (Ireland) or a Specialty Membership Examination qualification. Applying is simple - just complete the application form and provide evidence of your exam success.
Membership without examination
Experienced dental registered practitioners (who do not have a UK/Irish post registration qualification) but have an outstanding, verifiable record of dental clinical, research and educational achievement, may also apply for membership. To apply through the non-examination route on this basis, you must provide verifiable evidence of the following:

- Evidence of clinical experience and expertise in the areas of dental education, research and/or leadership/management - the purpose of which is to demonstrate the level attained
- Continual significant contribution to the standing of the dental profession
To apply via the non examination route , complete the application form attach your CV and supporting evidence, providing the names of two sponsors, one of whom should also provide a statement of support.
Ideally your sponsors must know you both professionally and personally and be in a position to truthfully declare whether or not they are aware of any disciplinary or other issues, which may affect your dental registration.
Your sponsors must either be a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow or a Fellow of the College and able to vouch for the accuracy of the statements and evidence you have provided. If you are unable to find sponsors who are Fellows of this College, we will consider current Fellows from another UK or Irish Royal College.
