New assessments for dentists

We offer dental exams at both a membership and fellowship level, allowing candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in dental surgery. On successful completion, candidates are eligible to become a Member or Fellow of the College.

A new generation of exams

Our College is working in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and have launched a new generation of dental exams. This tri-collegiate body is known as the Dental Examinations Executive and by creating this new approach it will enable consistency for trainees and provide clearer pathways to dental career excellence.

On behalf of the three colleges, our College hosts the secretariat (known as the Dental Examinations Executive) for the Dental Specialty Fellowship Examinations and new Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS). We are responsible for the management and delivery of these important exams.

These tri-collegiate assessments will establish a consistent standard across the UK and will replace the existing membership, specialty membership and fellowship exams for all colleges.

The new Dental Specialty Fellowship Examinations exam format will be in two parts: a written paper consisting of single best answer questions/multiple choice questions and a structured oral examination.
