College Statement on Secretary of State for Health’s “Our Plan For Patients”

23 Sep 2022

We welcome the Secretary of State’s focus on ambulances, the backlog, care, doctors and dentists as the key priorities for her new role. However, it is only by solving the workforce issues our Fellows and Members are facing every day that capacity can be built and progress made.

Commenting on the publication of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Therese Coffey’s “Our Plan for Patients” report, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow President, Mike McKirdy said:

“We welcome the Secretary of State’s focus on ambulances, the backlog, care, doctors and dentists as the key priorities for her new role. However, it is only by solving the workforce issues our Fellows and Members are facing every day that capacity can be built and progress made.

Therefore, we look forward to the publication of the NHS workforce strategy later this year.

The College will continue to work with the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and the UK Government, to help resolve the challenging issues facing the NHS, and ensure best patient care.
