Derek Evans qualified as a pharmacist in 1983 and began his career in community pharmacy, where he first developed a strong interest in travel medicine. Building on this early experience, he went on to complete his independent prescribing qualification, which enabled him to expand his clinical practice. He later undertook the Diploma in Travel Medicine, further deepening his expertise in the field, and progressed to become a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine as well as an OSCE Examiner, contributing to the assessment and training of future practitioners.
Derek now runs his own travel medicine consultancy, providing clinical support alongside education and training services for a wide range of organisations and professionals. His work has taken him internationally, reflecting his commitment to high standards of safe travel healthcare. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Travel Medicine and the Royal Geographical Society, recognising his experience and contributions to the discipline.
