Professor Abhay Rane MS FRCSGlasg(Urol) is a pioneering minimally invasive surgeon based in Surrey, UK, with several ‘firsts’ to his credit, including the world’s first single-port nephrectomy. He graduated from Poona University in India, and trained in urology in the UK and the United States. He has strong interests in surgical education, training and mentoring, and has served the College as Vice President (Surgical), Ordinary Councillor, Associate Director (International) and Regional Advisor.
Professor Rane has authored more than 200 scientific articles, 12 book chapters and edited nine textbooks. He was a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons Council, served as Director of the Endourological Society and was Chair of its Awards Committee. He has delivered several educational initiatives on behalf of the College in India and Sri Lanka, and he has been recognised in both countries for his efforts with Honorary Fellowships.
He was honoured as Officer of the Order of the British Empire by the late Queen in 2014 for services to laparoscopic surgery. In 2023, he was awarded the British Association of Urological Surgeons gold medal for services to British urology.
