Dr Vijay Viswanathan

Dr Vijay Viswanathan is a clinician–scientist with focused expertise in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot complications and diabetic kidney disease. His work integrates clinical practice with research, emphasising early detection, risk stratification and comprehensive management approaches to reduce diabetes-related morbidity. He has played a key role in the development of the Registry – Save the Feet initiative in India.

Dr Viswanathan is a member of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot Offloading and Wound Healing groups, contributing to the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines. He is actively involved in collaborative clinical research, capacity building for healthcare teams and the development of patient-centred care models. His work has contributed to the prevention of limb amputation for more than 100,000 people, and he has received several national and international awards.

He has authored around 300 peer-reviewed research publications and approximately 25 book chapters in national and international scientific journals.
