Dr Richard Hull FRCP(Glasg) was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, England in 1989. After graduating from Birmingham, England; he trained in Aberdeen, Scotland; Hammersmith Hospital, Taplow and Northwick Park Hospitals in England.
Dr Hull has written widely and contributed to standards of care and management guidelines on inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases and rheumatic disease in children and young adults. He is a past convener of the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology, served on the Council of the British Society for Rheumatology and was President of the Section of Rheumatology of the Royal Society of Medicine. He is also a former trustee and Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of Arthritis Care. He has examined for MRCP (PACES) since its introduction. He was Regional Advisor for Wessex, England commencing in 2008, becoming Honorary Secretary in 2016 and Vice-President (Medical) in 2023.
His service innovations were recognised nationally, and he maintains strong ties to Scotland, with long-standing links to the Western Isles and a love of the hills.
