Mr Alan Oliphant graduated from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, with an engineering degree and began his career as a programmer with a major European technology company before moving to Scotland to oversee client software maintenance. He went on to build a career in Edinburgh, Scotland, in internal audit, IT audit, information security management and risk management, working across the oil, brewing, financial services and government sectors.
Although Scotland-based, Mr Oliphant has delivered consultancy projects across Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. More recently, he has focused on skills transfer and training for governments in Eastern Europe, South Asia and Africa. He has been active within his professional bodies, published several books on IT audit and contributed to the development of standards and regulation in information security and corporate governance. He has been a lay examiner for the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons Part B examination since 2015 and joined the College Audit and Risk Committee in 2020.
