After selling his first business, Sports Division, for a cool £290 million, Sir Tom and his wife, Lady Marion, established The Hunter Foundation, which has donated millions of pounds to supporting educational and entrepreneurial projects in Scotland.

About the College Leadership Lectures 

For more than 425 years, the College has supported leadership in healthcare with a commitment to improving patient outcomes. This lecture series brings together some of the world’s most influential speakers to inspire the leaders of today and tomorrow. It aims to:  

  • Bring together renowned leaders from all backgrounds to engage and inspire
  • Open the door to new ideas and perspectives
  • Support resilience and build networks
  • Focus on collaboration  

Please note: This lecture is in-person only at the Royal College. Attendance is free, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Previous lectures in the series have been given by Chemistry Nobel Prize laureate, Professor Sir David MacMillan, and polling expert, political scientist and broadcaster, Professor Sir John Curtice. More lecturers will be announced soon.

About our speaker

Sir Thomas Blane Hunter is a Scottish businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist. With his wife, Lady Marion, he established The Hunter Foundation in 1998. After discussions with Vartan Gregorian, head of the Carnegie Foundation of New York, Tom set a cause and a method with has resulted in the foundation donating millions to supporting educational and entrepreneurial projects in Scotland. 

In 2005, he received a knighthood for "services to Philanthropy and to Entrepreneurship in Scotland".

In October 2013, Tom was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy. Described by some as the "Nobel Prize for philanthropy", the medal recognises those who use their private wealth for public good and is awarded biannually to global figures leading the way in this field. 

Who is this event for? 

The lectures are open to all leaders and aspiring leaders, from healthcare and beyond. Speakers are drawn from the worlds of business, industry and academia.
