Overview

The Introduction to Mentoring course equips participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective mentors. It also emphasises the personal and professional rewards inherent in guiding and supporting the development of colleagues within the healthcare sector.

The primary function of a mentor is to facilitate the growth of others, foster career advancement and pinpoint areas for skill enhancement. 

Tailored for clinicians interested in engaging in professional development and nurturing the talents of less experienced colleagues, this course serves as an essential primer on mentoring fundamentals.

  • The foundation skills and processes required to mentor successfully
  • An understanding of good practice in mentoring

Who is this course for?

This foundation course in mentoring is suitable for consultants and senior trainees within the healthcare sector. It welcomes anyone with a strong inclination towards mentoring or a desire to delve deeper into this pivotal role.  The course will also set you on a journey to become a College Mentor.

Making the most of your course

Delegates will firstly review online material introducing the principles of mentoring. Then, a live online training session, will take place to further explain mentoring skills and mentoring conversations. The live session must be attended to complete the course.

Become a mentor

Following the Introduction to Mentoring course, delegates are encouraged to continue developing their mentoring skills by participating in the Mentorship programme (details will be available soon). Upon completion of the Mentorship programmer, delegates are invited to mentor another Member of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, via My Mentoring.
