Julie Gallagher

Dr Julie Gallagher studied medicine at the University of St Andrews and the University of Manchester, graduating in 1992. She began her career in secondary care, gaining experience in paediatrics and infectious diseases, and developed her passion for travel medicine while working at Ruchill Hospital in Glasgow. She has been a General Practitioner in Edinburgh for 24 years and gained the Diploma in Travel Medicine in 2004. She has established and run two travel clinics in Edinburgh and has worked as an expedition doctor in South East Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

She served on the Executive Committee of the British Global and Travel Health Association from 2002, first as Treasurer and then as Chair from 2008–2011. She was also a founding director of the Alliance for Rabies Control, serving for nine years and helping to elevate global awareness of the disease.

Having lived in Addis Ababa, she has a strong interest in global health and climate change. A long-standing Member of the Faculty, she is honoured to serve as an Ordinary Board Member.
