Overview
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) is seeking experienced Travel Medicine practitioners to join the RCPSG Postgraduate Diploma in Travel Medicine OSCE Panel of Examiners. This voluntary role provides an opportunity to contribute to the quality and integrity of one of the leading postgraduate qualifications in Travel Medicine.
Examiners play a key role in the development, standardisation and delivery of the online Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), helping to ensure candidates are assessed fairly, consistently and to the highest professional standards. All examiner activities are undertaken remotely, and attendance at the College is not required.
Roles and responsibilities
Successful applicants will be appointed to the Panel of Examiners for an initial five-year term, renewable by the Academic Board. Examiners are expected to actively contribute to the development and quality assurance of the examination. Responsibilities include:
- Developing and standardising OSCE stations and examination questions.
- Supporting examination blueprinting and diet preparation in collaboration with the Head Examiner.
- Participating in standard setting and quality assurance activities.
- Undertaking examiner training prior to involvement in examination writing, setting or delivery.
- Attending examiner meetings and mandatory training sessions.
- Participating in the annual online OSCE examination and assessing candidate performance.
- Upholding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the assessment process.
- Maintaining the confidentiality and security of all examination materials.
Who are we looking for?
Applicants should:
- Be registered with a recognised professional regulatory body
- Hold a first degree in Medicine, Nursing or Pharmacy, or a postgraduate qualification in Travel Medicine.
Applicants should also meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Have a minimum of five years' experience in Travel Medicine practice.
- Have previous postgraduate examining experience.
- Be a Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine, RCPSG.
- Previous examining experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
