The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Scottish Heart & Arterial Disease Risk Prevention (SHARP) to work together on education, training and advocacy.
The three-year partnership will forge closer links between the two organisations, which share a commitment to improving patient care.
The MoU was signed at the College on Friday (21 August 2026) by Professor Hany Eteiba, College President, and Professor Mary Joan Macleod, Chair of SHARP.
College President Professor Eteiba, who is a front-line interventional cardiologist, said:
“Around 730,000 people are living with heart and circulatory diseases in Scotland, and as our population ages, this number could rise further still.
“We know that education and training make a powerful difference to patients’ life chances. For that reason, we are delighted to be strengthening our long relationship with SHARP.
“The MoU marks a commitment to education, training and advocacy, and we very much look forward to working closely with the SHARP team in the years ahead.”
SHARP Chair Mary Joan Macleod, a professor of clinical pharmacology and an honorary consultant physician, said:
“We are thrilled to announce our new affiliation with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
“Our trustees are exceptionally excited about this milestone and look forward to dynamic, collaborative working. Together with College Fellows, we are dedicated to improving Scotland’s cardiovascular health.”
