New Taylor Medal to celebrate leadership and innovation

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has launched a new award that will recognise individuals with a demonstrable positive impact in leadership and patient care.

Published: 22 July 2025

The Taylor Medal is named after Professor Jackie Taylor, who became the first female President in the College’s history in December 2018. She served as President for three years, skillfully leading the College through the Covid-19 pandemic, with a strong focus on the wellbeing of the profession, workforce challenges and inclusivity.

Applications are open to current Fellows and Members until 29 August 2025.

President Professor Hany Eteiba said: “Professor Jackie Taylor is pioneer, whose passion and dedication to medicine continue to inspire. Her contributions, including the development and delivery of multidisciplinary heart failure services, have left a lasting legacy.

“It is fitting that we launch this award in her name as we celebrate the College’s 425th anniversary.”

Professor Jackie Taylor said: "I'm proud to lend my name to this College award. Supporting and developing medical leaders is something I care deeply about.

“Medical leadership has a vital part to play in transforming healthcare, but it is a challenging time to be in a medical leadership role.

“It is so important that we value and celebrate achievements across a range of areas.

“I encourage our Fellows and Members to apply for the Taylor Medal and share their leadership journeys with us.”
