Update on MTI
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has been advised by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC), the national visa sponsor for the Medical Training Initiative (MTI), that NHS England funding to support Government Authorised Exchange (GAE, previously known as Tier 5) visa sponsorship has been withdrawn with effect from 31 March 2026.
As a result, applications for GAE visa sponsorship under the MTI scheme have been paused with immediate effect.
This change does not affect doctors who are currently in post on MTI placements.
Doctors with active applications have been contacted directly and provided with further information regarding the implications for their application.
For more information on the decision to discontinue funding for GAE visa sponsorship associated with the MTI scheme, please visit the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges website.
