Overview
The first Scottish Bile Duct Stone MDT Summit 2027 is a one-day, consultant-level meeting, dedicated entirely to bile duct stone pathways and single-stage management.
The programme brings together HPB and general surgeons, ERCP endoscopists, interventional radiologists, anaesthetists, trainees and medicolegal experts to examine how we can move towards “stone-clearance first” as the default in emergency and elective biliary care.
Learning outcomes
- To define and debate best practice for bile duct stone pathways, including when single-stage (LCBDE/IOC) versus two-stage (ERCP + LC) strategies are appropriate.
- To explore complex and high-risk scenarios (obesity, pregnancy, frailty, sepsis) and the respective roles of surgery, ERCP and IR within an MDT framework.
- To review medicolegal risk related to missed stones, delayed clearance and bile duct injury, and to understand how pathway design and documentation can reduce that risk.
- To outline practical approaches to training, credentialing, and service development for LCBDE and fluoro-free biliary surgery, supported by early data from the UK-BILE collaborative.
