Overview
This practical, clinically focused course offers a comprehensive update for the MSK Podiatrist. Delivered as an MSK-specific programme running alongside our International Sports Surgery and Medicine Conference, and in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, it provides timely, relevant learning for Podiatrists working in the MSK field.
Delegates will develop hands-on skills in running gait analysis, taping techniques for lateral ankle instability and the application of adjunct therapies including laser and shockwave treatments. The programme also explores the evolving landscape of injectable therapies, covering indications, techniques, and current best practice for injections.
They will also gain insight into orthotic and footwear prescription for sport, considering surface-specific demands, alongside structured approaches to early diagnosis and specialist assessment of common injuries. Through case-based learning and practical sessions, attendees will build confidence in clinical testing, injury grading, and the management pathways for ligament injuries, dislocations, fractures and tendon ruptures, with the integration of ultrasound where appropriate.
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Integrate advanced assessment and diagnostic approaches to support the effective management of MSK lower limb conditions
- Apply evidence-based treatment strategies, including taping, orthotic prescription, and adjunct therapies, within clinical practice
- Critically evaluate the role and application of injectable therapies in MSK podiatry
- Utilise gait analysis and sport-specific considerations to inform rehabilitation and injury prevention strategies
- Demonstrate structured clinical reasoning in the assessment and management of common sports-related injuries, incorporating imaging where appropriate
