IMPACT Instructor Training Day

Join the IMPACT faculty and contribute to the delivery of the course as faculty members.

14 May 2026
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

Overview

Want to help trainees in medicine? Want to teach acute medicine?

Ill Medical Patients' Acute Care and Treatment (IMPACT) is for you.

The IMPACT Instructor Training Day is a one day course for clinicians who are interested in contributing to the delivery of the course as faculty members.

Dr Douglas Sutherland

"Learning on the IMPACT course is designed to be highly interactive: so, training on our Instructor Day focuses on theory and educational skills that support and facilitate close, interactive learning. Such skills are widely employed and valued across clinical education practice."

- Douglas Sutherland, Lecturer in Adult Education and Teacher on IMPACT Instructor Day

Who can apply?

To join the IMPACT faculty, you should:

  • Be a consultant, associate specialist, or specialty registrar (ST3 or above) in acute medicine or a related specialty
  • Hold MRCP, FRCA, FRCS (A&E), or an equivalent higher medical qualification.

In some cases, specialist nurses or allied healthcare professionals (such as resuscitation officers) working in acute medicine may be considered at the discretion of the course director. Most faculty members are doctors.

Experience and preparation

All faculty members must have completed some form of instructor training before teaching on an IMPACT course. This may include:

  • A Generic Instructor Course (GIC)
  • An advanced life support course
  • An IMPACT Instructor Training Day

It is recommended that faculty have observed an IMPACT course beforehand. However, this is not essential if the course director is satisfied that you are familiar with the course content and teaching approach

What will you get?

  • Attend our free course at the College
  • Develop your teaching and educational skills
  • Contribute to the training of postgraduate clinicians
  • Build your professional network across acute specialties
  • Support and influence the development of trainees
  • Refreshments and catering provided

The course will prepare you for teaching on the IMPACT course.
