Overview
Oral surgery frequently involves managing complex pathology, anatomical variation, and clinical uncertainty. Many of the most valuable lessons arise from challenging cases, complications, and evolving evidence. This years Glasgow Oral Surgery Symposium: Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT), focuses on practical decision-making, surgical techniques, emerging therapies, and critical thinking that help clinicians improve outcomes and minimise morbidity.
Through a series of focused lectures, speakers will share insights drawn from real clinical challenges across dentoalveolar surgery, oral pathology, radiology, and pain management, offering delegates practical knowledge that can be directly applied in daily practice.

- Describe indications and technique for the use of the buccal fat pad in oral surgical repairs
- Discuss the evidence and clinical applications of 5-fluorouracil in the management of odontogenic keratocysts and ameloblastoma
- Understand the role of denosumab in selected oral and maxillofacial pathological conditions, including benefits and risks
- Apply structured approaches to pain history taking in orofacial pain assessment
- Recognise indications and principles for excision of oral epithelial dysplasia
- Describe the technique, indications, and outcomes of decompression tube placement in cystic lesions
- Review principles, case selection, and surgical steps in apicectomy
- Interpret key radiological findings relevant to oral surgery planning and complication avoidance.
To consolidate your learning, we record all sessions and make them available to all registered delegates for up to a month after the conference.
