Overview

This course has been designed for dentists, specialist and speciality trainees with an interest or experience in endodontics and oral surgery and is designed around three modules:

Module 1: a pre recorded webinar demonstrating patient assessment, treatment planning, and the steps involved in Endodontic microsurgery

Module 2: an afternoon observing live Endodontic microsurgery including patient consent and sterile set up (which can be attended by nurse colleagues, free of charge) Course dinner for delegates and faculty on the first evening ( 3 December) included in the registration fee

Module 3: a full day practicing Endodontic microsurgery and anatomical dissection on cadaveric material with contemporary equipment at our Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre (CASC)

Learning outcomes

By attending this course, you’ll be able to: 

  • Develop an understanding of the essential clinical factors of patient examination, diagnosis and treatment planning based on the most contemporary clinical literature
  • An understanding of a sterile surgical set up of endodontic microsurgical instruments
  • An understanding of patient communication and consent
  • Knowledge of how to perform periradicular surgery under the dental operating microscope
  • Knowledge of postoperative instruction and follow up
  • Experience of each stage of periradicular surgery on multiple teeth and local anatomy dissection, with contemporary microsurgical equipment under dental operating microscopes

 

Course director

This course is run by Dr Gareth Calvert; a consultant and specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. 

His clinical practice is devoted to the multidisciplinary oral rehabilitation of patients with hypodontia, including all aspect of surgical grafting and dental implant treatment, and single specialty interest of endodontics, particularly endodontic microsurgery and surgical repair of external cervical resorption. Gareth delivers education in various formats in the UK and abroad but particularly enjoys the privilege of cadaveric courses with our College.

Making the most of your course

In order to maximise what you’ll learn on the day, this course requires you to complete a pre-course video beforehand. Full details of what you need to do will be provided when you sign up for the course.

Preparation for the course

  • A foundational knowledge and experience of dental surgery is required to maximising the intensive two days of practical microsurgery learning.
  • A review of the pre-course material video.

You will be given access to the learning two weeks prior to the course via our online learning platform.

Attending the course

This event is an in-person course. That means you get the chance to join us at the Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre, located at the University of Glasgow.

CASC room

The Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre is located on the university campus in the West End of Glasgow.  

The closest train station from Glasgow Central or Queen Street is Partick, which is around a 15-minute walk from the centre.  

Hillhead and Kelvinbridge subway stations are both within walking distance of the university.  

There are regular buses from the city centre to University Avenue, Traveline Scotland can help you find the best route.

Parking on or around University Avenue can be quite limited, though there is some available. If you require disabled parking, you can make a request to the Disability Services team at the University of Glasgow.  

Claiming your CPD

This course offers 6 CPD for everyone who attends. This can be claimed via your College account. CPD points will be available for up to one month after the course. Where the course has been recorded, these sessions will also be available. If you have any questions about claiming your CPD points, our Education team are happy to help.
