Overview
Dental Cone Beam 2A course is a two-day course will enable you to begin safely interpreting your own cone-beam computed tomography scans having been introduced to what normal 3D anatomy looks like. You will then understand when to refer on for a level 3 expert radiological or surgical opinion should an anomaly or significant pathology arise.
Images from a number of CBCT scanners will be presented in formal lectures. The software that you will learn to drive in the workshop is kindly provided by our sponsor, Dentsply Sirona.
The course follows a logical path through the given material and is punctuated with reflective sessions and workshop software demonstrations. You will gain a thorough understanding of how to reference legislation as well as the responsibilities around CBCT implementation and operation.
Both days will offer an interactive, delegate centred approach to delivery with focused reflection and discussion. We aim to provide an engaging, relaxed educational environment utilising blended teaching.
Learning outcomes
By attending this Dental Cone Beam 2A, you’ll be able to:
- Safely refer and justify CBCT (IRMER Referrer and Practitioner roles) and communicate with other clinicians who may be involved in the patient imaging pathway.
- To operate the CBCT scanner safely in the IRMER Operator role if appropriate and know when to ask for advice (building on initial manufacturers teaching).
- Lead the dental team in terms of championing good radiological practice and encourage robust QA and audit (quality improvement).
- Utilise/ comply with the current radiation protection legislation surrounding CBCT
- Assess the available radiation dosages involved when utilising CBCT and explain these to the patient if asked to do so (in general/ realistic terms).
- Recognise normal 3D CBCT anatomy and appreciate common pathologies that may appear in the small and larger CBCT field of view (FOV).
- Structure a CBCT report (IRMER Operator (Reporter role) for those using small volume CBCT and know when to refer for ‘level 3’ advice.
- Refer ‘CBCT acquisitions’ for a specialist radiological opinion where necessary.
- Enthuse and lead their clinical teams to promote imaging excellence.
