Overview
An LA update for the local Podiatrist is designed to empower podiatrists with both the theoretical foundation and hands-on experience needed to fully utilise local anaesthetics (LA) in clinical practice. The session will also introduce advanced techniques, including full ankle blocks, as part of a comprehensive LA update.
Although podiatrists are certified in LA administration as HCPC-registered clinicians, many do not yet maximise its therapeutic potential in day-to-day practice. This event aims to bridge that gap by enhancing knowledge, confidence, and clinical proficiency in LA techniques.
Participants will gain practical exposure to the delivery of:
- Tibial nerve blocks
- Sural nerve blocks
- Intermetatarsal blocks
By the end of the session, attendees will be better equipped to apply these techniques effectively, improving patient outcomes and expanding their scope of practice.
Learning outcomes
- Apply best practice principles in the administration and management of local anaesthetic (LA) techniques
- Perform ankle blocks competently, demonstrating appropriate anatomical knowledge and technique.
- Assess and manage lesions effectively, incorporating evidence-based approaches to treatment and care.
- Utilise micro local anaesthetic (LA) techniques in clinical scenarios, demonstrating precision and safety.
- Identify and explain common anatomical variations in nerve pathways relevant to LA administration.
- Demonstrate proficiency in subcutaneous and deep injection techniques through supervised practice and skill consolidation.
Who is this course for?
This hands-on session is ideal for podiatrists looking to expand their scope of practice and improve the quality of care delivered through effective use of local anaesthetics.
