Summary
We are seeking a Lay Advisor with professional experience in fundraising to provide specialist insight and constructive challenge as the College starts to implement its first fundraising function.
About the opportunity
The successful applicant will become a member of the Lay Advisory Group and bring an independent, external perspective to the College's developing fundraising approach.
This is an advisory rather than operational fundraising role. You will not be responsible for delivering fundraising activity or personally securing donations. Your role will be to use your professional expertise to help the College consider opportunities, risks and good practice.
What will you bring?
We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in areas such as:
- developing sustainable philanthropic income;
- donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship;
- major gifts and/or trusts and foundations;
- developing fundraising propositions and cases for support;
- identifying potential opportunities;
- fundraising governance, ethics and risk;
- working with Trustees, Boards or senior leadership teams on fundraising.
You should be able to provide sound independent judgement, communicate specialist fundraising matters clearly to people who may not have a fundraising background and constructively challenge assumptions or proposals.
Experience within the charity, healthcare, education, membership or professional body sectors would be particularly valuable.
You will also contribute to the wider work and discussions of the Lay Advisory Group, bringing the independent perspective expected of all College lay advisors.
Commitment
The Lay Advisory Group meets approximately three to four times each year. Applicants should also be willing, where required, to provide specialist input on fundraising matters between scheduled meetings, working with the Fundraising Manager and Business Development Manager. Total time commitment is expected to be approximately 10 – 15 hours per year.
Meetings are hybrid, with the option of attending in person at our Glasgow offices or remotely via Microsoft Teams.
