Reporting to the Vice President (Surgical), the Clinical Lead for Robotics and Minimal Access Surgery is a new strategic leadership position, responsible for shaping and delivering the College’s vision for robotic-assisted and minimal access surgical education. This is a key part of the ‘Future Surgeon Programme’ establishing the College as a recognised centre of excellence in technology-enhanced surgical training.
The postholder will establish and chair a multidisciplinary Clinical Advisory Group. The major focus of the group will be the development of a comprehensive educational framework, from undergraduate through to consultant practice, covering minimal access surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, simulation-based learning, human factors, virtual and augmented reality technology. The Clinical Lead will provide advice on the acquisition of simulation technologies and robotic platforms, ensuring that resources meet learner needs and align with future curriculum requirements.
They will also act as a key ambassador for the College, representing it in discussions with other Royal Colleges, specialty associations, training organisations, healthcare providers and industry partners.
The successful candidate will be a substantive NHS Consultant Surgeon with significant experience in minimal access surgery, expertise in robotic-assisted surgery and a strong commitment to surgical education. Excellent leadership, communication skills are essential, together with the ability to work collaboratively across organisations and specialties.
The appointment is for an initial three-year term, with an anticipated commitment of approximately 1 Programmed Activity per week during the establishment phase.
The role is honorary, with reimbursement of reasonable expenses. Compensatory remuneration with the employing authority can be considered.
