Royal Colleges to work together for the future of podiatry

Agreement will advance podiatric practice, recognise innovation, and reinforce the role of podiatrists in public health.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Podiatry have signed a strategic agreement committing to closer collaboration.

The Colleges will work together on areas of policy, clinical practice, research and communications with the shared aims of advancing the podiatry profession and enhancing patient safety.

Jayne Robbie, Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow said: “Signing this Memorandum of Understanding reinforces the shared commitment to podiatric practice, and the global voice of podiatrists practicing in all their varied and innovative roles across the UK and the world.

“This renewed partnership promotes excellence, integrity, and dedication and establishes a rich future of collaborative working that demonstrates collective action despite the challenges facing global healthcare in the modern world. We have already met to determine some collective outputs in order to monopolise on the energy and commitment of this shared venture.  

“Both of our Colleges are committed to advancing podiatric practice both here and internationally. The legacy of this collaboration will support podiatrists, recognise innovation, and reinforce the role that podiatrists have in driving public health.”

Professor Jane McAdam, Chair of the Royal College of Podiatry Council said: “This is more than a symbolic gesture. It is a meaningful step forward in our shared commitment to advancing podiatric medicine, improving patient outcomes, and strengthening the professional voice of podiatrists across the UK and beyond.

“Our two organisations have long shared common values; clinical excellence, professional integrity, and a dedication to patient safety. Today, we formalise a partnership built on mutual respect, equality, and a spirit of collaboration. This MoU sets out a framework for joint working in areas that matter deeply to us all: policy development, clinical practice, research, and communications. It is a commitment to work together constructively, transparently, and with purpose.”
