Overview
The Renal Biopsy Cadaver Course is aimed a trainees who are looking to develop their skills in carrying out renal biopsies or core medical trainees intending to apply for renal specialty training. This course takes place in person.
Learning outcomes
By attending this course, the programme will include:
- Indications for native renal biopsy
- Complications of renal biopsy
- Ultrasound localisation of the kidney with demonstration by a Consultant Radiologist and hands on experience
- Hands-on experience of real-time ultrasound guided native renal biopsy in cadavers
- Appropriate division of biopsy cores for maximal diagnostic yield
- Hands-on experience in identification of cortical tissue and biopsy division with personalised feedback from Consultant Renal Pathologist
- Post-procedure management (including bleeding complications)

Attending the Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre
The centre is located on the university campus in the West End of Glasgow.
The closest train station from Glasgow Central or Queen Street is Partick, which is around a 15-minute walk from the centre.
Hillhead and Kelvinbridge subway stations are both within walking distance of the university.
There are regular buses from the city centre to University Avenue, Traveline Scotland can help you find the best route.
Parking on or around University Avenue can be quite limited, though there is some available. If you require disabled parking, you can make a request to the Disability Services team at the University of Glasgow.
Claiming your CPD
This course offers 6 CPD points for everyone who attends. This can be claimed via your College account. CPD points will be available for up to one month after the course.
