Today, 1st February— two years since the deadly coup in Myanmar took place—Royal Colleges across the UK are lighting up their buildings in red in a moment of solidarity and remembrance for health workers who have risked, and lost, their lives to provide care over the past year.
Joint statement on the BMA ballot for junior doctor strike action in England
We know that our members will not take any decisions over strike action lightly and that the best interests of the patients they care for will be a central consideration. Whatever decision is made, we will continue to support our members, for their well-being, the sustainability of services and ultimately, for the benefit of patients.

We welcome the publication of an independently verified NHS wide workforce plan over the next 5, 10 and 15 years early in the new year. This is something that our College and others have been engaged with for some time, so it is pleasing to see our efforts have been successful.
Over 100 health and care organisations call for staffing forecasts in the NHS long-term workforce plan
Over 100 health and care organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, have signed a letter to the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt in support of publishing the NHS long-term workforce plan in full – including assessments of how many staff will be needed to keep pace with demand.
