Building sustainability into every day
In the last edition of our College membership magazine VOICE, we explored the relationship between environmental sustainability and healthcare. Inequalities in health: What do we know and what can we do?
The UK’s National Health Service was designed in response to visible health inequalities, pushed forward by collectivist attitudes in the post-war era. Widening access to healthcare for all people removed the fear of ill-health, which had plagued low-income communities. As a nation, we became healthier thanks to its interventions.

A new briefing paper was launched at our drop-in event in Stormont, Northern Ireland on 11 October, hosted jointly by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
Joint surgical Royal Colleges’ statement on Physician Associates (PAs)
Physician Associates (PAs) are valuable members of the surgical team who help in the delivery of acute and elective surgical care. They do not undergo the same medical training or specialist education as surgeons and should always work under the supervision of a medically qualified practitioner.

College set to host the first UK PACES23 exam at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is delighted to announce that we will be running the first UK PACES23 exam at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary on 29 September 2023. Our dedicated exam team is working hard to prepare our centres and we are very much looking forward to welcoming new candidates in the autumn.

Medics honoured for services to refugee doctors in Scotland
Dr Patrick Grant and Dr David Ritchie were awarded 2023 President’s Medals for their outstanding work with the Doctors Bridges Programme, which provides support and tailored educational programmes to help refugees living in Glasgow.
