College President, Professor Hany Eteiba, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Study UK Alumni Awards held at the British Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday (10 February 2026).
The ceremony, hosted by HM Ambassador Mark Bryson-Richardson with support from the British Council, celebrated the exceptional achievements of UK alumni worldwide.
Professor Eteiba is a leading interventional cardiologist and became the first international medical graduate to be elected President of the College in its 425 year-history
“I am deeply honoured to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award. To be recognised jointly by the United Kingdom and Egypt, two countries which have shaped my life, my values and my career, is a privilege beyond words.”
Professor Eteiba began his career in medicine studying at Egypt's oldest higher education institution, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, before his path took him briefly to Montreal and then on to Glasgow, where he pursued advanced training in cardiology.
He added: "I was born and educated in Cairo, Egypt, a country with a long tradition of scholarship and respect for learning. I later made my professional home in Glasgow, a city that welcomed me, challenged me and ultimately placed its trust in me.
"I wish to express my sincere gratitude to His Majesty’s Government and to the UK Ambassador for this recognition, and equally to the Egyptian Government for honouring the contribution of one of its citizens abroad.
"This award symbolises what can be achieved when nations believe in education, opportunity and collaboration across borders."
During his visit in Egypt, Professor Eteiba also attended Cardio Egypt which celebrated 75 years the Egyptian Cardiology Society, where he delivered a guest lecture, Boarders, Barriers and Breakthroughs: My story from Cairo to RCPSG presidency.
Earlier in the month the President was awarded with an Honorary Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan at the International Medical Education Conference in Karachi.
He said: “I am humbled by the reception I have received from these prestigious organisations and the global Fellows and Members I have had the pleasure of meeting on my travels. I am inspired and look forward to bringing the learnings and new ideas with me back to our College in Glasgow.”
