Elizabeth Murphy

Dr Liz Murphy graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1985, having also completed an intercalated degree in immunology. She gained a master’s degree in clinical leadership in 2010 and is a Consultant Rheumatologist in Lanarkshire.

Dr Murphy has a strong commitment to medical training and has held a number of posts in postgraduate education locally and nationally. She is currently Associate Postgraduate Dean for Career Development and Performance Support in the Scotland Deanery. She has held a variety of roles in Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, and has contributed to the redesign of the Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills examination. She has served as Director of Medical Education at the College.

In her clinical work, she has developed subspecialty provision in Lanarkshire for patients with vasculitis and connective tissue disease, as well as paediatric and adolescent services. She has an interest in team-based learning and the role of effective diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills in clinical practice, and is an advocate for lifelong learning as a contributor to patient safety and clinician wellbeing.
