Resident Doctors' Committee

The role of the Resident Doctors' Committee is to inform and advise the College on key issues which directly impact on resident doctors, and to contribute to discussions and activities around all aspects of College life.

The Resident Doctors' Committee is strong and proactive with a motivated membership drawn from all grades across the specialty spectrum.

Committee members work hard to engage with a multitude of bodies, committees and individuals in order to promote resident doctors' interests across a wide range of issues and domains.

Joining the Resident Doctors' Committee is a great opportunity to become actively involved in the College and to help shape the future of medicine.

Areas of activity

The committee has made significant contributions to a number of areas, most recently including:

  • Improving awareness and accessibility for Less than Full Time Training
  • Improving wellbeing through the creation of wellbeing resources and hosting wellbeing events
  • Working groups currently working on issues relating to workforce, as well as fertility and family planning for resident doctors
  • Providing guidance to College Council on issues relating to resident doctors
  • Ongoing engagement with the Academy of Trainee Doctors' Group (a forum for trainee representatives of all medical royal colleges and faculties)

Members and meetings

The Resident Doctors' Committee is comprised of medical students, foundation doctors and medical and surgical resident doctors covering all stages of training – including those not currently within a training programme.

The committee meets four times a year at the College. It is often joined by the President or Vice Presidents, and senior representatives from our Education and Membership departments.

"I would definitely say the Resident Doctors' Committee enhances your leadership skills. Being part of the committee, you have a strong voice in College activity and the opportunity to be part of national scale projects which has given me a really good insight into all sorts of things."
